Catie Cottle

A native of Tallahassee, Florida, Catie moved to Chicago to attend college at the University of Chicago. She graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. Catie began her legal education at Chicago-Kent immediately after. In the summer after her 1L year, Catie worked with the in-house legal department at Kaplan Higher Education. During the fall semester of her 2L year, she externed in the Circuit Court of Cook County for Judge Lee Preston. During the spring semester of her 2L year she externed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois for Judge Matthew Kennelly. Following her 2L year, Catie worked as a summer associate at Kirkland & Ellis in Chicago. Upon graduation from Kent, she will return to Kirkland & Ellis as an associate in the litigation group. In her free time, Catie is an avid fan of FC Barcelona soccer.

Cecilia Suh

An Illinois native, Cecilia grew up in Rogers Park and Glenview. She graduated from Emory University with a B.A. in English, French, and economics in 2005 and worked in education consulting before coming to law school. The summer after her 1L year, Cecilia worked for Verizon Wireless in their legal department. As a 2L, she was on the board of KJF and planned the KJF Wine Event, externed for Judge Denlow of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, was an IP Colloquium Fellow, and worked as a research assistant for Professor Cho. The summer after her 2L year, she worked as a summer associate for Funkhouser Vegosen Liebman & Dunn. As a 3L, she continues to work for Professor Cho and will extern for Judge Jackson at the EEOC this spring. Her interests include playing badminton, watching HGTV, and exploring Logan Square.

Daniel Hantman

Daniel Hantman completed his B.A. at Brandeis University with a dual concentration in History and Anthropology and received an M.A. in Social Science with a focus in Anthropology from
the University of Chicago. Prior to attending Chicago-Kent, he taught fifth grade with Teach for America in New Orleans and, afterward, fourth grade inclusion in Charlotte. In addition to teaching, Daniel worked as a research analyst at Northwestern University for the Youth and Digital Media Use Survey Project and served as first Administrator for the Chicago Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Chicago. During his first and second years at Chicago-Kent, Daniel studied the legal impacts of perpetually emerging digital media technologies as a research assistant for Professor Lori Andrews and externed in the Chancery Division in the Circuit Court of Cook County with Judge Lee Preston. Subsequently, he began working as a Law Clerk at Chapman Spingola, LLP during his second year, spent the summer there, and will continue to work there during his third year. Outside of work, Daniel is an avid jazz guitarist and always delights in interesting conversation ranging from the political to the epicurean.


Eric Michel

Eric spent his whole life in Chicago until leaving to attend Drake University for undergrad. Unemployed with a journalism degree four years later, he returned to Chicago and worked odd jobs for two years before starting law school. Eric’s focus in law school has been in the public sector, primarily in environmental and energy law. He has spent two summers as a clerk with federal agencies (U.S. EPA in Chicago after his first year, Nuclear Regulatory Commission in Washington, D.C. after his second year), and he spent one semester as a clerk in the Illinois Attorney General’s Environmental Enforcement Bureau. He also externed one semester with the Honorable Rebecca R. Pallmeyer in the Northern District of Illinois. Eric currently works part-time as a clerk with Integrys, an energy corporation with several regulated utility and non-regulated subsidiaries throughout the Midwest. In his spare time he enjoys traveling, photography, biking through this beautiful city, and baseball.

Qi Chen

Qi Chen was born in Shanghai, China before moving to the Chicago suburbs when he was ten.  He graduated from Iowa State University with B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering. After college, he worked at VEECO Metrology as an applications engineer using Atomic Force Microscopes for semi-conductor manufacturing in sunny Santa Barbara. After his first year at Chicago-Kent, Qi worked for Global IP, an IP firm located in Chicago.  He also externed for the Honorable Robert E. Gordon, appellate judge for the first district of Illinois. This past summer, he worked at Mayer Brown, LLP as a summer associate.  In his free time, he enjoys reading, playing cards, and trying out all the fantastic dining options in the Chicago area.

Jennifer Nimry Eseed

Jennifer Nimry Eseed grew up in Naperville, Illinois. She graduated summa cum laude from DePaul University with a B.A. in International Studies and a minor in Economics. After Jennifer’s 1L year she worked for a small immigration law firm. During her 2L year, she was an extern at Michael Best & Friedrich, and she worked in the Employment and Civil Litigation Clinic under Professor Laurie Leader. Following her 2L year, Jennifer was a summer associate at Hodges, Loizzi, Eisenhammer, Rodick & Kohn. During her 3L year, Jennifer is externing with the Honorable Judge Drella Savage of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Law Division and she is working as the Executive Editor of the Seventh Circuit Review.

Vladimir Shuliga Jr.

Vladimir Shuliga Jr. was born in L’viv, Ukraine. He immigrated to the United States in 1990 and has lived in the suburbs of Chicago ever since. In 2010, Vladimir graduated from DePaul University with a degree in Political Science and a minor in Mathematics. After college, he went directly to law school.  After his first year at Chicago-Kent, Vladimir externed for the Honorable Jesse G. Reyes, a judge for the Cook County Circuit Court.  He is currently a law clerk at Ottosen Britz Kelly Cooper Gilbert & DiNolfo, Ltd.  In his free time, he enjoys playing sports such as soccer and volleyball.

Karlin Sangdahl

Born and raised in the Chicago suburbs, Karlin Sangdahl is in her third and final year at Chicago-Kent. She graduated cum laude from Illinois Wesleyan University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in History and German.  After her first year of law school, Karlin served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Magistrate Judge Morton Denlow in the Northern District of Illinois. This past summer, she was a summer associate at Reed Smith in Chicago, where she will return upon graduation from Kent. Her main area of legal interest is commercial litigation, primarily in the products liability field. Because life’s too short to be all about work, Karlin also enjoys traveling as often as possible, listening to great music, working out, Alabama football (whose victories help offset the heartbreak wrought by the Chicago Bears each season,) and exploring the food landscape of Chicago.

Sylvia St. Clair

Sylvia St. Clair is a native of the “south side”—the south-west suburbs of Orland Park.  This semester, Sylvia is a semester associate at Segal McCambridge Singer Mahoney, and she will compete in the Ilana Diamond Rovner Competition for Moot Court Honor Society.  Sylvia has served as the 1L evening representative and the Vice President of the evening division for the Student Bar Association, a teaching assistant for Prof. Ralph Brill, and a research assistant for Prof. Felice Batlan.  This past spring, Sylvia had the honor to extern for the Honorable Frank Castiglione at the Circuit Court of Cook County Law Division.  Prior to starting law school in 2010, Sylvia spent over eight years in the hotel industry, even opening a beachfront hotel in Florida as General Manager.  Sylvia left her hotel career behind to start her most rewarding career to date – mother to her three children:  Mya (age 7), Ilana (age 5) and Owen (age 3).  In addition to focusing on her legal studies, Sylvia volunteers her time as a reading coach and paint room parent at her daughters’ school.    She is also the membership director for the Parents for Education group for her school district.  Sylvia is proud to be a member of the Law Review, and she looks forward to a great year!

Teresa Becvar

Originally a native of Central Indiana, Teresa Becvar graduated from the University of Chicago with a B.A. in Cinema and Media Studies in 2002. Before settling down to study law at Chicago-Kent, Teresa managed the production of a 35-mm feature science fiction film, Something Missie in the Life of Jordan Bank, which was awarded best narrative feature at the 2009 Denver Underground Film Festival. She has also worked for the federally-appointed Shakman Monitor for the City of Chicago since 2006, ensuring that constitutionally prohibited political considerations do not enter into the City’s employment practices. While at Chicago-Kent, Teresa externed for the Honorable Susan E. Cox, magistrate judge of the Northern District of Illinois, worked as a law clerk at Levin & Perconti, and externed at the Employment Law Clinic at the C-K Law Offices. In her free time, Teresa enjoys exploring Chicago’s restaurant scene, attempting to run, and digging into pulp detective novels.

Kylin Fisher

Kylin Fisher graduated from the University of Colorado – Boulder with a Bachelors of Environmental Design in Design Studies. After college, she spent one year in the Washington D.C. area volunteering with Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia. While at Chicago-Kent, Kylin has been a Housing Intern at Cabrini Green Legal Aid and a Civil Rights Intern at Equip for Equality. Currently, she is President of the Kent Justice Foundation and on the executive boards of Woman in Law, Immigration Law Society and SportFeasors. Kylin is also serving as Supervising Manager of the Self Help Web Center, a pro se help desk in the Daley Center. In her spare time, Kylin plays golf and competes in triathlons.

Kyle Gillen

Kyle grew up in Naperville, IL. He attended University of Illinois – Champaign Urbana where he majored in Economics. After college Kyle lived in Chicago and San Francisco while trading stock options on the CBOE for a options market making firm. Kyle’s legal experience includes externing for Cook County Judge Allen Greenberg and working at the Securities Exchange Commission. Last summer Kyle was a summer associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom in Chicago. In his free time Kyle enjoys staying active and White Sox baseball.
